Our Mission

Closing the gap between donors and patients.

Pulse exists to help close the gap between people who need blood and people who are willing to donate it. In many countries like Zambia, lives are lost not because donors do not exist, but because the donation process is difficult, fragmented, or poorly understood.

We believe access to blood should depend on need, not privilege.

Community support and healthcare

Why blood donation matters

Blood transfusions save lives every day during childbirth, surgery, trauma, cancer treatment, and medical emergencies. Yet many public hospitals struggle to maintain adequate blood supplies.

WHOThe standard

The World Health Organization recommends 10 units of blood per 1,000 people. Low-income countries often fall far below this target.

GOALOur target

Improving access, awareness, and coordination can significantly reduce preventable loss of life. We help people donate safely and consistently.

Our approach

Three core principles

01

Enable donors

We provide clear, accessible information about who can donate, how to prepare for donation, and what to expect before and after the process. Education builds confidence, especially for first-time donors.

  • Eligibility guidance
  • Preparation tips
02

Improve coordination

Pulse helps donors find nearby donation centres, view whether they are open, see what blood products are accepted, and get directions instantly. Timely reminders help donors give when it matters most.

  • Location discovery via Maps
  • Real-time center status
03

Increase transparency & trust

By supporting digital donation records, impact tracking, and verifiable proof of donation, Pulse aims to strengthen trust between donors, healthcare providers, and employers.

  • Secure digital records
  • Impact tracking

How blood donation works

1

Check eligibility

Basic eligibility depends on age, weight, health status, and donation history.

2

Prepare

Eat well, stay hydrated, and rest before donating. Preparation improves comfort.

3

Donate

The process typically takes less than an hour. Blood is collected safely by professionals.

4

Recover

Rest briefly and hydrate. Most donors can donate again after a set recovery period.

Pulse guides donors through each step with clear instructions and reminders.

What we are building

Pulse is currently in the design and development phase. The mobile application prototype demonstrates:

A clear home experience with donation steps
Real-time visibility of donation centres
Impact tracking of units donated
Simple navigation using Google Maps

Our vision

We envision a future where donating blood is easy, understood, and recognised as a shared civic responsibility. Pulse is built to support that future by combining technology, education, and community participation.
